  Kenneth Swanson, 94, of Ransom passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024 at OSF Center for Health,   Streator, IL. 

  The family invites friends and family for a lunch to celebrate Ken’s life and share memories at 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 18th at the Streator Elk’s Club in Streator.

  Born October 15, 1929 in Kinsman, IL he was the son of Axel and Bertha (O’Berg) Swanson who were Swedish immigrants.  He married the love of his life, Marilyn Alberts, on December 30, 1961, at St. Stephens Church in Streator, IL.

  He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Swanson of Ransom, sisters, Hazel Fellows of Streator and Harriet  Koetz of Seneca,  sister-in-law Jean Swanson of Ransom, godson Axel Swanson of Ransom, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Helmar and Gerald Swanson,  sister Shelby Tobias, sister-in-law Mary Swanson, brothers-in-law, Gordon Fellows, Kenneth Shaffer, John Tobias and Walter Koetz, nephews John and Ronald Swanson, niece Lorraine Babcock and his godson Axel Swanson’s mother Patricia O’Brien.

  He was raised in the Ransom area and attended Ransom Grade School and Streator High School.

  He served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War as a tank mechanic.

  Kenneth and his wife, Marilyn farmed in the Ransom area their lifetime.  Kenneth would have seen his 80th harvest on the family farm this year. He took pride in utilizing conservative farming methods and received county recognition for his efforts.

  He loved animals, especially dogs and horses. Throughout his life he enjoyed celebrating the traditions of his Swedish heritage, especially the food.  He will be dearly missed by his loving wife and family.
